When I install Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars onto my Windows Mobile 5 device, I get "Installation was unsuccessful"?

When installing Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars onto a Windows Mobile 5 device via the desktop installer, you will almost certainly encounter the error message "Installation was unsuccessful" immediately after ActiveSync has finished copying the file to your Pocket PC.

The reason for this is a little known but common bug in the operating system, which only rears it's head when you try to install a file which is larger than the current free space in the main memory of the Pocket PC, and while it potentially affects any application, Broken Sword is large enough that you will always encounter it.

During the installation process, you will see a message from ActiveSync asking you to select a location to save the file it is copying to your Pocket PC - select a storage card with at least 250Mb free space, and ActiveSync will start copying the CAB file to your Pocket PC. When it finishes, the operating system normally tries to open the CAB file to start installation...but it's failed to properly identify the CAB file on the card, so it will immediately pop up a message saying that installation was unsuccessful!

Fortunately, this is a very simple problem to workaround!
1) Open the "File Explorer" application on your Pocket PC (normally found by tapping "Start" and then "Programs")
2) Using File Explorer, browse to your storage card, which you normally do by tapping in the top left corner of the screen, just below the Start button (you should see the name of the current folder you are viewing, with a small black arrow next to it), and selecting "My Device". From there, there should be a folder named "Storage Card", "SD Card", "CF Card", or a number of other possible names (this can vary from device to device). You can normally also identify it by the small icon next to the name, which looks slightly different to the others.
3) Look for the file named "Astraware Broken Sword.CAB" (you might only see part of the name, depending on your device) and tap on it to start the final installation step!
4) Follow the normal on-screen prompts for installing the game.
5) Once installation is complete, you may need to manually delete the CAB file - not all Windows Mobile 5 devices automatically delete the CAB file once installation is complete.
