Each of the two helicopters available in Hellfire: Apache vs Hind have 3 weapons as follows: MiL-24 Hind: AH64A/D Apache: Very broadly, each weapon falls into one of three differet categories. GSH-23 Chaingun/M203: These two rapid fire guns deal low damage, but have a very high rate of fire, and the weapon also tracks the target very effectively. They are most useful against fast moving aerial targets like planes or other helicopters because of this, but can still be useful against ground targets. Rockets/Hydras: These fast moving rockets deal a reasonable amount of damage, and because of their high numbers, are often my own weapon of choice when attacking an enemy base or ship. They aren't especially useful against enemy helicopters, as if you are moving quickly at an angle to the enemy, or are far away, you do stand a chance of missing the target. Swatter/Hydra: These missiles travel relatively slowly compared to the other two weapons, but pack enough punch to instantly take out any target...so long as they hit! Their slow speed means that if fired from a distance at a fast moving target means you have very little chance of hitting, but if employed against slow moving or stationary targets like tanks, bunkers or SAM sites, they will destroy them quickly and efficiently The Apache has an immediate advantage in that it carries twice as many "instant kill" missiles than it's counterpart the Hind, but along with this is a commensurate drop in the number of general rockets it carries. The Hydra is more powerful than the Hinds rockets, but the low ammo count means you have to be more conservative and accurate with your shots than in a Hind! You can obtain ammo reloads by landing at the home base or carrier - this will only reload one type of ammo, depending on the mission (typically the land base refills chaingun ammo and the carrier rockets/Hydras). Crashing your helicopter will cost you a life, but you reappear with some more ammo as well. (Note that in higher difficulty levels, you receive less ammo when you respawn than at lower levels) |
